Iryna Gusiuk

Iryna Gusiuk was born July 6, 1980 in the small Ukrainian village of Volodymyr-volynsky as the oldest of two children.  According to her mother, by age 6 to 7, she spent most of her free play time designing clothing for her paper dolls.  Iryna accelerated in regular school and at age nine she began art classes for nine hours a week until age fifteen.  Iryna attended Odesa Art College (M.B. Grekova) and South Ukraine University of Art and Graphics (K.D. Ushinsky) in Odesa Ukraine, eventually graduating at age 25 with a master's degree in art.

In 2008, Iryna was the winner of the All-Ukrainian youth art competition in outdoor painting (plen air).  Later that year she had an exhibition of 28 paintings in the Museum of Eastern and Western Art in Odesa Ukraine.  Her "My Love" exhibition at the Uman Museum in 2009 eventually traveled through eight other cities in Ukraine.  Iryna has shown several times at the Poland International plen air art exhibitions.  In 2010, she participated in the Odesa Ukraine self-portrait art exhibition.  In 2012, she participated in the London "Welcome to Ukraine" exhibition and the National Union of Artists exhibition.  She won second place nomination for creative achievements at the 2013 Odesa Regional government council art exhibition.  Iryna held personal art exhibitions at Ternopil Regional Museum and Bleshchunova Museums in 2016.  The following year her art was hung in her hometown museum of Volodymyr-volynskyi.  Since 2018 she has participated annually in the Ukrainian interior design contests.

Iryna has evaluated and judged artists work at festivals and competitions throughout Ukraine over the past fifteen years.  Several of her paintings were hanging in Ukrainian museums prior to the onset of the Ukrainian/Russian war.  Before the war boke out, Iryna owned a design business and art studio in Odesa Ukraine.  Additionally, she taught art at the college she graduated from and participated with her art students in many other exhibitions from 2010 to 2021.  Iryna fled her homeland with her daughter and mother and now lives in Ocean Springs, Mississippi.
